All prescribed public health and veterinary protocols were strictly observed during Wednesday’s visit by Metropolitan Gerasimos of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Kition to a livestock unit in Troulloi, according to an announcement issued on Thursday by the Holy Metropolis of Genuine Orthodox Christians of Kition.
The Diocese refers to “inaccuracies” circulated in sections of the media suggesting that multiple visits had taken place.
It clarifies that, prior to entering the unit, inspections were carried out by the competent state authorities and all required checks were implemented, including double disinfection procedures on both entry and exit. The same disinfection procedures were repeated upon arrival and departure, in full compliance with official guidance.
Metropolitan Gerasimos visited the livestock facility in Troulloi on Wednesday to reaffirm the Church’s support for livestock farmers and their families during a difficult period for the sector.
According to the Diocese, the Metropolitan initially attended a church service for the blessing (Agiasmos) and the reading of special prayers before proceeding to a single livestock unit in the area.
“Following the service and the reading of the special prayers at the Holy Church, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of Kition proceeded to one and only one livestock unit in the area (Troulloi), and not to units, as was incorrectly reported,” the statement said.
The Diocese adds that the Church does not seek publicity or exaggeration but offers substantive support to livestock farmers and their families, calling on the faithful to pray and to provide practical assistance.
Metropolitan Gerasimos also appealed to the competent state authorities to provide meaningful and effective support to livestock farmers, backing their demands at a time of crisis for the sector.
“The Church has always stood by those in distress and it is not acceptable for it to be targeted for its pastoral presence,” the statement concludes.
