Deposits Down €851 Million in January, According to CBC

Loans up €76 million, figures reveal

Total deposits in January 2026 recorded a net decrease of €851.2 million, according to statistics for the Monetary Financial Institutions (MFIs) deposits and loans, published on Thursday, by the Central Bank of Cyprus. At the same month, total loans recorded a net increase of €76.4 million.

According to the CBC, total deposits in January 2026 recorded a net decrease of €851.2 million, compared with a net increase of €877.1 million in December 2025. The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 5.3%, compared with 6.5% in December 2025.

The outstanding amount of total deposits reached €56.9 billion in January 2026.

Loans to Cypriot residents increase

Deposits of Cyprus residents exhibited a decrease of €767.7 million. More analytically, households’ deposits increased by €34.2 million, while deposits of non-financial corporations recorded a decrease of €469.7 million. Deposits of the remaining domestic sectors exhibited a total decrease of €332.2 million.

CBC notes that total loans in January 2026 recorded a net increase of €76.4 million, compared with a net increase of €587.2 million in December 2025. The annual growth rate of total loans stood at 11.2%, compared with 10.7% in December 2025.

The outstanding amount of total loans reached €26.9 billion in January 2026.

Loans to Cyprus residents exhibited an increase of €124.2 million. More analytically, loans to non-financial corporations increased by €22.6 million, while loans to households exhibited a zero change. Loans to the remaining domestic sectors exhibited a total increase of €101.5 million.
