Two people were arrested overnight during coordinated police operations carried out across Cyprus, as officers stepped up patrols in urban areas.
One person was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Another was arrested for public insult. The arrests followed organised checks aimed at preventing serious crime and maintaining public order.
Police said 591 drivers and passengers were stopped and checked during the night. The operation covered key points in towns and cities across the island.
At the same time, officers carried out 35 inspections of premises. Six reports were made. These concerned the entry of minors, sound emission permits and other offences linked to regulatory breaches.
Traffic controls led to 101 reports for various road traffic offences. A further eight cases of traffic violations are under investigation.
Among the reports, 46 drivers were booked for drink-driving. As part of the checks, seven vehicles were impounded.
Police said the coordinated patrols form part of daily operations to prevent and suppress crime. They include increased presence, targeted checks and immediate action, with the stated aim of protecting the public and maintaining order.
