Unsettled weather is expected across Cyprus over the coming days, with isolated showers on Saturday followed by thunderstorms and a noticeable drop in temperatures on Sunday.
An area of weak low pressure is affecting the region, while a colder air mass is expected to move in from Sunday as part of a broader Omega Block pattern. Dust will remain suspended in the atmosphere until Saturday.
This afternoon, conditions will be partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at times, with medium and high cloud expected to produce isolated showers. Winds will be mainly south-westerly to westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slight to moderate.
Tonight, skies will be mostly cloudy with localised showers and isolated thunderstorms, initially affecting western areas before spreading elsewhere. Winds will be variable, light and at times moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain slight to moderate.
Temperatures will drop to around 11°C inland, 13°C along the coast and 7°C in the higher mountains.
On Sunday, the weather will remain mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. Hail is possible during storms, while snow or sleet is expected on the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains. Winds will initially be variable, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually turning south-westerly to westerly and strengthening to 5 Beaufort, with gusts reaching 6 to 7 Beaufort in windward areas. The sea will become moderate to rough.
Temperatures will rise to around 20°C inland and along the coast, and 12°C in the higher mountains.
On Monday, conditions will remain mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, with snow or sleet again expected on the highest peaks of Troodos.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, periods of increased cloud cover are expected, bringing isolated showers mainly in the mountains during midday and early afternoon. Temperatures are forecast to gradually rise by Wednesday but will remain below average for the season.
