President Nikos Christodoulides met France’s President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Monday, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis said. The private meeting took place during the inauguration of exhibitions marking Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Letymbiotis said the meeting reflects close cooperation between Cyprus and France and a high level of coordination on European, regional and international issues.
President Christodoulides inaugurated two exhibitions highlighting Cyprus’ cultural heritage and its ties with France and Europe. One is at the Louvre Museum, the other at the National Library of France.
At the Louvre, 16 Cypriot artefacts from the Deputy Ministry of Culture are displayed in the Department of Near Eastern Antiquities. Works include idols from the Troodos Mountains and a copper ingot from Enkomi.
Visitors can also explore digital experiences and cultural context from the Chalcolithic and Bronze Age periods. The display incorporates poems by George Seferis and Konstantinos Kavafis and Cypriot songs. The exhibition runs until 22 June 2026 and is organised with the University of Cyprus and CYENS.
The National Library exhibition, open until 14 June 2026, presents manuscripts, drawings, coins and artefacts tracing Cyprus’ history from antiquity to modern times. It includes works by Louis François Cassas and 17th-18th century icons, highlighting Cyprus’ Orthodox Byzantine tradition and historical links with France.
