Businessman John Christodoulou has again left open the possibility of seeking the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus, saying he believes he could succeed if he decides to enter the race.

Speaking at the 17th Limassol Economic Forum, Christodoulou expressed confidence in his abilities but stopped short of confirming whether he intends to contest the 2028 presidential election.

Confidence in a potential candidacy

According to InBusiness, Christodoulou was asked directly by journalist Emilia Papadopoulou whether he would be Cyprus' next president.

Responding in English, he said: "If I go for it, I believe I will be."

He added that he has confidence in his own capabilities and knows himself well, while also highlighting the importance of experience in public life.

Presidency would require major sacrifices

Despite expressing confidence, Christodoulou acknowledged that a decision to run for the country's highest office would not be straightforward.

He said a presidential campaign and potential presidency would require substantial personal sacrifices and significant changes to his lifestyle.

Sees strong economic potential for Cyprus

Christodoulou also commented on the outlook for the Cypriot economy, saying the country is performing well economically and that he would invest "every cent" in Cyprus.

At the same time, he argued that Turkey's presence remains a source of uncertainty affecting the island's future prospects.

Cyprus issue could unlock growth

According to Christodoulou, a settlement of the Cyprus problem and greater stability could generate substantial economic gains.

He estimated that sectors including real estate, insurance and business activity could see growth of between 25% and 50% if a solution were reached.

He added that he has already held discussions and advocated for efforts in that direction.

No final decision yet

Christodoulou said that if he were to become actively involved, he would want to work with people who take responsibility and honour their commitments.

However, he declined to reveal any final decision on a presidential bid, leaving open the question of whether he will ultimately enter the race for the presidency.
