The authority says Irene Loizidou-Nicolaidou was selected through a lawful procedure involving expressions of interest, candidate evaluation, interviews and a council decision.

The Radio and Television and Digital Services Authority has rejected claims and reports concerning the appointment of its director, Irene Loizidou-Nicolaidou, saying they do not reflect the facts and risk misleading the public.

In a statement, the authority said recent social media posts, press reports and online articles had included inaccurate information about the procedure followed for Loizidou-Nicolaidou’s selection.

According to the authority, her appointment followed the required process, including an expression of interest procedure, assessment of applications, personal interviews and a decision by the authority’s council.

It said the process formed part of the administrative and financial independence under which the authority operates, rejecting suggestions that the legality of the appointment was in question.

The authority added that it would continue to carry out its duties with responsibility, integrity and commitment to the public interest.

It said it remains focused on its dual role as the national regulatory authority for broadcasting and as the national coordinator for digital services.
