Inflation rose to 2.8% in April, according to data released by the Statistical Service, mainly due to significant increases in fuel prices.
The Consumer Price Index in April 2026 increased by 1.73 points, reaching 102.80 units, compared with 101.07 units in March 2026.
According to CYSTAT, the largest annual increases compared with April 2025 were recorded in petroleum products, which rose by 18.3%, and agricultural goods, up by 9.6%. The largest decrease was observed in electricity and water, which fell by 7.9%.
Compared with March 2026, petroleum products recorded the sharpest monthly increase at 12.6%.
Price changes by category
On an annual basis, the highest increases were recorded in transport at 8.2%, food and non‑alcoholic beverages at 4.8%, recreation, sports and culture at 4.2%, and educational services at 3.7%.
The largest annual decrease was recorded in clothing and footwear, which fell by 5.3%.
On a monthly basis compared with March 2026, the biggest changes were observed in transport, which rose by 8.3%, clothing and footwear by 5.2%, and housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels by 1.4%.
Contributions to the CPI
The largest positive contribution to the annual change in the CPI in April 2026 compared with April 2025 came from restaurants and accommodation services at 3.11 units, recreation, sports and culture at 2.82 units, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.85 units.
The largest negative contribution was recorded in health services at minus 2.61 units, followed by information and communication at minus 1.61 units, and clothing and footwear at minus 1.14 units.
On a month‑to‑month basis, transport had the largest impact on the CPI change at 1.23 units, followed by clothing and footwear at 0.32 units and housing‑related costs at 0.17 units, while food and non‑alcoholic beverages had a negative contribution of minus 0.11 units.
Recreation services recorded the largest positive contribution to the annual CPI change, while mobile communication services had the largest negative contribution.
Fuels and lubricants had the largest positive impact on the monthly CPI change, while vegetables recorded the largest negative impact.
