Police believe the shooting at a house in Ormideia may have been intended as a message to a 48-year-old inmate currently serving a life sentence in the Central Prisons for the quadruple murder committed in Ayia Napa in June 2016.
The house targeted belongs to the inmate's 76-year-old father.
Police were informed on Wednesday morning that gunshots had struck the front of the property. Investigators have not yet determined the exact time the shots were fired.
The scene was cordoned off while officers began collecting evidence and carrying out forensic examinations.
Link to Ayia Napa quadruple murder case examined
The fact that the homeowner is the father of the convicted prisoner immediately raised concerns among investigators.
The inmate was convicted alongside other individuals over the quadruple murder that targeted businessman Fanos Kalopsidiotis in Ayia Napa.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and whether it is connected to the inmate.
Second attack against the family
The shooting is not the first serious criminal incident involving a member of the prisoner's family.
In August, an attempted murder was carried out against his younger brother outside his home in Ayia Napa.
That previous attack has heightened police suspicions that both incidents could be linked to the activities of the same life-sentence prisoner while in custody, a scenario that was already being examined during the investigation into the attempted murder.
As a result, investigators are expected once again to extend their inquiries to the Central Prisons.
August attempted murder remains unsolved
The attempted murder of the inmate's younger brother remains unsolved.
At around 6am on 21 August, the 33-year-old was driving in the Kokkines area when unknown individuals opened fire on him.
He escaped injury, although his vehicle was damaged.
Police said the attackers had apparently set up an ambush a short distance from his home. As he attempted to turn towards the property, gunmen fired at the vehicle.
A short time later, a car was found burning in an open area near Avgorou.
According to police, the burnt vehicle was linked to the attempted murder and is believed to have been used by the attackers.
