Two men aged 22 and 24 were seriously injured in a brawl in the Agios Ioannis area of Limassol on Sunday night. Five other men were arrested as police investigate whether they were involved in the incident.
Weapons found in rented vehicle
Police received information about a brawl in the area at around 10pm.
During the subsequent investigations, officers located a rented vehicle containing clubs and a hatchet. The vehicle was transferred to Limassol Police Headquarters for further examination.
Shortly afterwards, officers found five people in the area who allegedly attempted to flee after noticing the police presence. Three tried to leave in a vehicle, which officers immediately intercepted.
The five men, aged 21, 26, 27, 28 and 30, were arrested for the apparent offence of unlawful assembly and taken to the offices of Limassol Criminal Investigation Department.
Police are investigating whether they were involved in the brawl.
Two men found with serious injuries
At around 1am, acting on information received, police found two injured men, aged 24 and 22, at separate locations in Agios Ioannis.
They were taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where their conditions were assessed as serious.
The 24-year-old sustained injuries including skull fractures, an epidural haematoma, a fractured shoulder blade and a fractured vertebra.
The 22-year-old suffered an open wound to the top of his skull, associated fractures, an epidural haematoma and a fractured vertebra.
Limassol CID is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
