A video circulating on Facebook has raised concern over the condition of the water beside Limassol’s Old Port, with rubbish seen floating near the Molos jetty.
The person who posted the footage said it was recorded on 11 August, while children were swimming and diving only a short distance away.
Rubbish beside the jetty
The footage was shared in the Facebook group “I Lemesos” and appears to show litter and dirty water at the jetty near the entrance to the Old Port.
“Limassol Molos, at the jetty by the entrance to the Old Port. 11 August. And next to it, children are swimming and diving from the jetty,” the uploader wrote.
Referring sarcastically to the condition of the water, the user added: “The Blue Flags are gone. At least put up brown flags.”
The video drew angry reactions from other members of the group.
The relevant authorities had not issued an official response at the time of publication.
Molos not on Blue Flag list
The comment was a reference to the Blue Flag programme, which recognises beaches that meet a range of standards, including bathing-water quality.
CYMEPA announced this year’s Blue Flag beaches in Cyprus on 17 July. Limassol’s Molos was not included on the list.
