The Cyprus Ports Authority is set to present the timeline for planned developments at Larnaca’s port, marina and surrounding areas, as the city awaits key details.

This week is expected to bring developments regarding the long-discussed issue of the redevelopment of Larnaca’s port and marina.

On Thursday, July 2, a meeting of the Larnaca City and District Development Committee will take place, during which the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) will present the roadmap outlining the timetable for the implementation of developments announced by the state for the port, marina and surrounding land areas. In essence, this will mark the formal unveiling of what the CPA is planning for these two key sites, which for many years have seen no substantial upgrade.

The crucial meeting of the Development Committee will be held at the Multipurpose Social Welfare and Employment Centre at 6pm. It is recalled that the roadmap for developments at the port, marina and surrounding areas was announced by President Nicos Christodoulides and Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades during a meeting with Larnaca stakeholders on May 15. At that time, it was stated that the roadmap, including the development timeline, would be completed by June 30, 2026.

The recent announcement regarding the official presentation of CPA plans next Thursday (July 2) indicates that the roadmap has now been finalised. As a result, there is strong anticipation in Larnaca for the details.

Ahead of the presentation, the Municipality of Larnaca said the event is of particular importance, as it is expected to include planning for the implementation of key decisions related to the development project. These include the assumption of overall implementation by the Cyprus Ports Authority, the upgrade of the port into a tourist port with compatible commercial uses, the upgrade and expansion of the marina to accommodate approximately 200 additional vessels, the development of the adjacent land area, with a total area of around 50,000 square metres, for urban uses that will mainly benefit tourism and the local economy, as well as the promotion of the unification of Larnaca’s coastal front.

It is recalled that at the May meeting at the Presidential Palace, President Christodoulides and Minister Vafeades announced that the developments would be definitively assigned to the Cyprus Ports Authority, under specific terms of reference, which local authorities and stakeholders in Larnaca are now awaiting to see officially.
