The 22-year-old suspect admitted to killing student SHAHRUAR AHMED EMON and led police to both the weapon and the location where the body was found. Authorities are investigating the case as premeditated murder, with financial motives indicated. The suspect is expected to appear in court as investigations continue.
Significant developments have emerged in the case of the disappearance and abduction of 22-year-old SHAHRUAR AHMED EMON from Bangladesh, as Larnaca CID investigations led to the discovery of a man’s body in an open area of the Larnaca district, believed to belong to the student who had been missing since June 12.
A 22-year-old foreign national has been arrested in connection with the case. He is reported to have confessed to involvement in the young man’s death and indicated both the burial site and the alleged murder weapon.
Arrest following evaluation of evidence
According to police, the suspect was arrested at around 10:30 am on Sunday under a court warrant issued after evaluation of information and evidence gathered during the investigation.
During questioning, he is said to have confessed to the murder and led officers to a location in Larnaca where the body of a man was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
Initial indications suggest the body belongs to SHAHRUAR AHMED EMON, though formal identification is expected through forensic examinations.
Knife believed to be murder weapon recovered
The scene was immediately sealed off by police, with forensic investigators and a medical examiner called in for inspection and evidence collection.
A knife, which the suspect claims was used in the crime, was found and seized. Various personal items believed to belong to the victim were also recovered.
Investigations at the scene are ongoing, while detectives continue gathering additional evidence to fully clarify the circumstances of the case.
“Financial motives – acted alone”
In statements, the head of Larnaca CID said the suspect admitted killing the abducted man and identified both the location of the body and the weapon, as well as items belonging to the victim.
Based on evidence so far, the motive appears to be financial, while all indications suggest the suspect acted alone.
Due to the advanced decomposition of the body, the exact time of death cannot yet be determined. However, based on collected evidence, it is estimated that the victim was killed on the same evening he disappeared.
Investigated as premeditated murder
The case is now being investigated as premeditated murder. According to police, all available technological tools, communications data and advanced analysis systems were used during the investigation.
Through area searches and telecommunications analysis, the evidence emerged that led to the suspect’s identification and arrest.
Police stated that the case is essentially solved based on current evidence, though investigations continue to clarify all aspects.
The suspect is expected to appear before court on Monday, with police seeking a detention order.
