New evidence has come under examination by investigators at the Larnaca CID in connection with the suspected abduction of 22‑year‑old student Shahruar Ahmed Emon, who has been missing since 12 June.
Messages of a threatening nature, reportedly sent to the victim’s father, have now come to light. According to the information, the messages were transmitted via mobile phone and are believed to be linked to the case, with those responsible allegedly demanding €35,000 in ransom for the student’s release.
A police officer at Larnaca Police Headquarters confirmed that investigators are aware of the messages, noting that they form part of the broader inquiry. The material is being examined alongside other multimedia files collected during the ongoing investigation. Authorities are also assessing the authenticity of some content already circulating online to determine whether it is directly connected to the case.
One of the messages allegedly states: "You have to pay 10,000 euros on Sunday and 25,000 euros on Monday. If you can’t pay, I’ll save you a kidney." Another reads: "If you tell anyone, you won’t be able to see their face."
Police said efforts continue to locate the missing student, identify those responsible and trace individuals who may have come into contact with him before his disappearance.
Disappearance on first day of work
The 22‑year‑old, a foreign national from Bangladesh, had left his residence in Oroklini on the afternoon of 12 June to travel to a factory in Kofinou, where he was due to start work for the first time.
He has not been seen since, and no proof of life has been received. Authorities have traced the last signal from his mobile phone to the Kofinou area, but despite searches, he has not yet been located.
Investigations are ongoing.
