The revised wording no longer refers to active regional escalation, with Nicosia describing the change as a further step towards normality.

The United Kingdom has updated its travel advice for Cyprus, softening the language used in relation to regional tensions after the announcement of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.

The latest guidance, published by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, states that Washington and Tehran have announced a memorandum of understanding in relation to the conflict in the Middle East, while noting that the situation in the region remains unpredictable.

The previous wording, according to the Cypriot government, had referred more directly to active regional escalation. The revised advisory instead links the recommendations for British nationals to the possibility of hostilities resuming.

Under the updated guidance, British nationals are advised, in such a scenario, to monitor local and international media, follow the instructions of local authorities, sign up for FCDO travel alerts and keep departure plans and travel documents under review.

Government sources in Nicosia said the change marks the second improvement in the UK’s travel advice for Cyprus and reflects a return towards normality following the recent regional uncertainty.

The FCDO travel advice for Cyprus remains current as of 18 June 2026.
