A temporary court order bans the motorcycle stunt attraction from operating on the Limassol seafront, after the municipality said licensing conditions had not been met.

The Limassol District Court issued an interim order on Friday banning the operation of the so-called “Wall of Death” attraction during the Flood Festival events on the city’s seafront.

The attraction had initially received the green light from Limassol Municipality under specific conditions. However, according to the municipality, the operators failed to comply with the requirements set before a final operating permit could be issued.

The mobile structure, in which a motorcyclist performs stunts while spectators watch from an elevated platform after paying an entrance fee, had applied to the municipality for space on the seafront during the festival period. The request was approved by majority vote, despite reservations raised from the outset within the municipal council.

Concerns grew in recent days after the attraction was transported and installed at the Molos area. The municipality said the placement did not comply with the approved terms, while damage was caused to public infrastructure, including the wooden deck near the central pier.

Following the incident, Limassol Municipality applied to the court for an order preventing the attraction from operating. The order was issued on the grounds that the operators had not complied with the municipality’s conditions and, as a result, no operating licence had been granted.

Among the requirements were permits from the Fire Service, the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services and other competent authorities, which were not submitted to the municipality in order for the operating licence to be issued.

The issue of damage to municipal property is expected to be handled separately. Limassol Municipality is preparing legal action to recover the cost, with an initial estimate placing the damage at more than €30,000. The amount could rise further.

A temporary fix has been carried out on the wooden deck near the central pier so that the Flood Festival events can proceed without disruption. Permanent repairs are expected to take place at a later stage.
