Authorities say claims about warrant and its withdrawal are inaccurate and could mislead the public

The Cyprus Police have stated that no arrest warrant was ever issued or requested against journalist Makarios Drousiotis in connection with the case concerning his allegations.

In an official statement, police clarified that “at no point was the issuance of an arrest warrant against the individual under consideration,” stressing that reports suggesting it was not executed “do not correspond to reality.”

They said the clarification was necessary to prevent misleading the public and the creation of false impressions regarding the procedures followed by the authorities, as well as to safeguard citizens’ right to accurate and documented information.

Police also emphasised that all actions are carried out strictly within institutional procedures and based on the facts of each case, reiterating their commitment to professionalism and respect for due process.

The statement follows claims made last week by Drousiotis on social media that an arrest warrant had allegedly been issued against him in mid‑April under political direction, but was withdrawn due to concerns over public reaction.
