A fire broke out on Friday afternoon in the buffer zone near the Kaimakli area, prompting a response from the Fire Service.
The blaze was visible from several parts of Nicosia. According to initial information, it was burning dry grass and wild vegetation inside the buffer zone.
The incident was being broadcast live on TikTok from the campaign bus of the Amesis Dimokratias movement, with MEP Fidias Panayiotou appearing prominently in the footage.
According to what was being shown in the live broadcast, the fire had been burning since shortly after 3.30pm.
The footage showed candidates from the movement holding buckets and attempting to assist efforts to contain the blaze. The livestream was being widely circulated on social media, raising questions over whether the intervention was also being used for political and communication purposes.
