Online banking app Revolut has been hit by a major outage that has affected not only the app but also card payments in shops, leaving many customers unable to pay or move money. Users in several countries reported problems on Tuesday morning, while the company said it was aware of the issue and working to fix it.
Company statement
“We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple features, which may result in some services being inaccessible,” Revolut said in a statement posted on X. “Our engineering team is actively working to restore full service as quickly as possible.
“We appreciate your patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Card payments also affected
Revolut faced a wave of complaints on social media from users who said they were unable to make payments or transfer money, causing a range of problems.
Notably, unlike many other banking outages, users said their cards had also stopped working, leaving them unable to pay even in physical stores.
Complaints came from around the world, with users in the UK, France and Spain reporting disruption. It is unclear whether the outage is affecting every Revolut user.
Status page shows all systems “operational”
Revolut offers a “system status” page on its website, but at the time of The Independent’s report, it showed all systems as “operational”.
