17-Year-Old Held for Eight Days Over Nicosia Burglary Spree

The suspect was arrested in connection with eleven burglaries that caused an estimated €5,900 in losses.

The Nicosia District Court issued an eight-day remand order against a 17-year-old who was arrested in connection with eleven cases of burglary and theft reported in the early hours of yesterday across the Nicosia district. Police said the suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon under a court warrant after evidence emerged during the investigation.

Businesses targeted across two areas

According to a police statement, the affected premises included five pharmacies, a kiosk (periptero), a mini market, a fruit shop, a petrol station, a restaurant and a café, located in the areas of Pera Chorio Nisou and Agia Varvara.

Method and losses

Police said the perpetrators smashed the glass entrances of the premises using stones and stole a total of approximately €5,900 from the cash registers.

Evidence recovered

During the investigation, three damaged cash registers were located at sites in Dali and Agia Varvara, along with various other items, which were collected as evidence. Additional evidence was also collected from the scenes for forensic examination.

Investigation ongoing

The cases are being investigated by the Serious Crime and Burglary Investigation Unit of the Nicosia CID (TAE), in cooperation with the Pera Chorio Police Station.
