President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides marked the 66th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Cyprus with a statement, describing the state as the country's most significant achievement and setting out his priorities for strengthening it both domestically and internationally.
President's statement
"Our State, the Republic of Cyprus, is our most significant achievement," the President said. "Respect for its status, its protection and continuous upgrading, together with the strengthening of all our factors of power, both domestically and internationally, constitute our highest priority."
Domestic and international priorities
The President said this involved "strengthening our security and our economy, with policies that modernise our State and continuously improve the quality of life of all citizens," as well as, internationally, "strengthening the footprint and standing of the Republic of Cyprus so that it is treated with respect as a credible and creative partner."
Link to reunification
"It is within this framework," the President noted, "that being clearly stronger, we will be able to pursue, with real claims, the long-desired goal of liberation, the end of the Turkish occupation and the reunification of our homeland."
He concluded: "Through a solution that will be functional and viable and will give new perspective and hope, new horizons in conditions of peace and security. Above all, the Republic of Cyprus."
