Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis says the Council of Ministers wants the appointment made as soon as possible following the forwarding of the Anti-Corruption Authority's full report.

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced the Council of Ministers' intention to appoint a team of independent criminal investigators at the earliest opportunity, speaking after the conclusion of today's cabinet session. Letymbiotis did not provide a specific timeline but stressed that the appointment would be made "as soon as possible."

Reports forwarded to police and cabinet

The announcement follows yesterday's decision by the Prosecutorial Council of the Law Office of the Republic to immediately transmit to both the Cyprus Police and the Council of Ministers the full report of the Anti-Corruption Authority, along with the final report of the inspection officers and all relevant minutes and supporting evidence.

Why the decision was taken

According to the Law Office, the decision was taken with the aim of initiating criminal proceedings at the earliest possible stage, taking into account the significant public interest surrounding the case and the need to safeguard the uninterrupted functioning of institutions and the administration of justice.
