Thousands of emails have been sent to members of the British Parliament in recent weeks as part of the #HandsOffCyprus campaign, organised by the National Federation of Cypriots in the United Kingdom. The campaign marks 52 years since the start of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the continued occupation of part of the Republic of Cyprus. According to the Federation, the online campaign has already reached more than half of all members of the House of Commons.
The message to the UK government
The central call of this year's campaign is for the British Government to make every possible effort to bring Turkey back to the negotiating table for a solution to the Cyprus Problem based on the agreed United Nations framework, in accordance with international law and the European Union acquis communautaire.
Federation president urges continued participation
Christos Karaolis, President of the Federation, thanked the Cypriot community for its support, noting that the initiative reaches more than 50% of British MPs every year. "This sends a message to every MP that the British-Cypriot community remains firmly committed to finding a solution to the Cyprus Problem. We must continue our efforts to make it clear that Cypriots want an end to the illegal and continuing Turkish occupation," he said.
Those who have not yet participated are encouraged to send a message to their local MP via cypriotfederation.org.uk/mp — a process that takes under 30 seconds.
A letter to His Majesty The King
Alongside the parliamentary campaign, the Board of British Cypriots wrote to His Majesty King Charles III on 22 June 2026, ahead of the royal birthday. The full text of the letter reads:
