President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman on Tuesday held their first meeting in almost a month at the UN Protected Area in Nicosia, with the UN describing the talks as having taken place in a “positive atmosphere”.
According to a UN press statement, the meeting which lasted around an hour and a half, resulted in agreement to jointly attend the upcoming festival in Pyla this Saturday, 17 October.

They also agreed to jointly attend upcoming meetings of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, the Technical Committee on Youth and the Steering Committee of the Civil Society Consultative Body.
The two leaders said they looked forward to the forthcoming visit of UN Personal Envoy on Cyprus María Ángela Holguín. They also agreed to meet next week to continue their discussions.
The meeting was the first between the two leaders since 17 September, with both having visited New York in the intervening period during the UN General Assembly.

Holguín has stated she will return to Cyprus in October and has asked the sides to focus on progressing on previously agreed confidence-building measures (CBMs) as well as preparing proposals on methodology.
