Cyprus’ Social Insurance Services have warned the public about a fraudulent email being circulated that falsely claims to come from the department.

In a statement on Wednesday, authorities said the message informs recipients that a benefit payment has been approved and asks them to provide bank account details in order to pay a supposed €10 administrative fee.

Officials stressed that the Social Insurance Services never request any payment for the approval of applications.

They also clarified that all official communication by email is sent exclusively from addresses ending in “@mlsi.gov.cy”.

The public is urged not to click on any links contained in such messages and to delete them immediately if received.
