Campaign calls for evidence-based policies and global cooperation

The Ministry of Health said it supports efforts to promote and strengthen science, highlighting its participation in joint EU initiatives aimed at improving public health and shaping evidence-based policies, in a statement marking World Health Day.

The Ministry noted that each year the international community marks the day as a reminder that health is a fundamental human right and a moral obligation towards every individual, regardless of age, gender, origin or socioeconomic status.

“Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is not merely the absence of disease but a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing,” it said.

Under this year’s slogan, “Together for health. Stand by science”, a year-long campaign has been launched, calling on governments, scientists, institutions and the public worldwide to support science by relying on evidence and scientifically grounded policies to protect health.

The campaign places emphasis on using scientific data to guide decision-making on health, climate and the environment, with a focus on the “One Health” approach. This approach promotes the protection of people, animals, plants and the planet, while addressing threats to health and ecosystems.

The Ministry reiterated its support for strengthening science and confirmed its participation in EU-level actions aimed at improving population health through evidence-based policymaking.

“Human health has improved significantly thanks to scientific progress and its achievements. The future will be shaped by how we develop and apply science-driven approaches to health, based on global solidarity and cooperation,” the statement said.

The World Health Organization’s 2026 campaign highlights the importance of leveraging scientific evidence and collaboration to address modern health challenges, the Ministry concluded.
