Storm Erminio Weakens but Dust Lingers Over Cyprus

Yellow weather warning remains in force until Thursday morning as unsettled conditions gradually improve across the island.

The low-pressure system named Erminio continues to affect Cyprus, although weather conditions are expected to improve gradually by midday. At the same time, dust remains suspended in the atmosphere, with concentrations expected to be elevated at intervals.

Weather conditions on Thursday

The day began with cloudy skies, local showers and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Conditions are expected to improve gradually during the morning, although isolated rain may persist, mainly over the eastern half of the island.

Winds will initially blow mainly from the southeast to south, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort and locally moderate to strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort. They are expected to soon shift to south-westerly to north-westerly directions. The sea will be generally slightly rough to rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 21°C inland, as well as along the western and northern coasts, about 23°C on the southern and eastern coasts and around 14°C in the higher mountainous areas.

Conditions overnight

Tonight, periods of increased cloud cover are expected. Winds will blow mainly from the south to south-west, weak and at times locally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain slightly rough to rough.

Temperatures will fall to around 9°C inland, about 11°C along the coasts and around 5°C in the higher mountains.

Outlook for the coming days

On Friday and Saturday, periods of locally increased cloud cover are expected, which may produce isolated showers or thunderstorms.

On Sunday, the weather will initially be partly cloudy, gradually becoming mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Temperatures are expected to gradually decline until Saturday, falling slightly below seasonal averages. On Sunday, no significant change in temperature is expected.
