Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to change the order of photos and videos in carousel posts even after they have been published.
The update was confirmed by the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, while instructions were also shared through the platform’s official Creators account. Users can now edit a post, select the content they want and move it to a different position within the same carousel.
The feature applies to posts with multiple images or videos and can be accessed through the edit option. Users can press and hold the item they want to move and drag it to a new position before saving the changes.
The feature began rolling out on Monday and is expected to become available gradually across all regions. According to tests, there does not appear to be a time limit for changing the order.
However, the new option applies only to newly published posts. In older carousel posts, users can remove content but cannot change the order.
Another frequent request from users remains unresolved, as there is still no option to add new photos to posts that have already been published.
The update is part of a broader set of changes on the platform, which also include new options for controlling the algorithm in Reels. At the same time, the company has announced that it will stop supporting end-to-end encryption in direct messages after May 8.
