Nicosia is expected to be affected today by a spell of severe weather, for which a yellow warning has been issued, according to the met depatment. However, conditions are not expected to be as intense as those recorded yesterday.
Meteorological officer Panayiotis Lingis told the Cyprus News Agency that the yellow warning will come into effect at 10am time, moving in from the west, with Nicosia likely to be impacted between 1-4pm.
He added that hail is possible during thunderstorms.
Lingis also referred to morning rainfall in the Limassol area, expressing hope that today’s rainfall will increase inflows into reservoirs. He noted that rainfall intensity in mountainous regions over the past 24 hours ranged between 40 and 60 millimetres.
Looking ahead, he said similar but weaker weather phenomena are expected tomorrow, mainly north of the Troodos Mountains, particularly in areas between Astromeritis, Nicosia and Famagusta, from midday into the afternoon.
Conditions on Monday are expected to follow a similar pattern.
