Invest Cyprus participated in New York in a breakfast roundtable event organised in collaboration with FT Locations and fDi Intelligence. This was the second event in the series following the launch of the collaboration in London last month. According to a press release, the discussion focused on where international capital is currently flowing, and why the Eastern Mediterranean is attracting steadily growing investor interest during the current geopolitical and digital transition.
Thursday's event, titled “Capital, Returns & FDI: Investing in Europe’s Growth Markets”, brought together investors, business leaders and policy makers, Invest Cyprus notes, adding that the discussions were conducted under the Chatham House Rule.
Cyprus ideal as 'regional base'
According to the press release, the discussions covered a broad range of topics, including which sectors are emerging as investment opportunities, how risk and long-term value are being assessed, and which European markets offer a genuine competitive advantage.
"Cyprus played a central role throughout the discussion, as its European identity, legal system, dynamic growth in the technology sector and geographic position at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa make it a credible proposition for any investor seeking a sustainable regional base," Invest Cyprus says.
As it is noted, the event forms part of the series of initiatives undertaken by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, who in April 2025 visited New York, Houston and San Francisco with the aim of attracting investments.
AI, energy and governance are key
Evgenios Evgeniou, Chairman of Invest Cyprus, stated that investors today are not only looking for high returns. "They are seeking resilience, legal certainty and strategic access to markets with strong prospects. Cyprus offers all three. Today’s discussion confirmed that the international investment community is following Cyprus’ progress and the opportunities emerging here with particular interest."
Jacopo Dettoni, moderator and Editor of fDi Intelligence, added that geopolitical tensions are on the minds of many investors at the moment. However, he underlined, those who invest professionally, whether large companies or major private portfolios, operate with a long-term horizon that goes beyond the current news cycle.
"Structural trends such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence, energy security and the quality of governance are factors that will shape investment decisions in the years ahead. In this context, Cyprus is well positioned to claim its place on the map, capture investor interest and present a positive outlook for the coming decade," he added
