Phedonas Phedonos appeared at the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday to give a statement in connection with a rape complaint filed against him by a woman, concerning an incident alleged to have taken place several years ago.

The complaint concerns the suspended mayor, with the complainant having already provided testimony to the authorities. Police have been examining the case for several days.

Accompanied by lawyers

According to information, Phedonos attended the police headquarters accompanied by his lawyers. He has expressed his intention to submit written material to investigators in relation to the case under investigation.

In recent days, several individuals, mainly from the complainant’s circle, have also given statements to the investigating authorities, providing information linked to the allegations.

The same sources indicate that a site inspection has already been conducted at an apartment which the complainant claims is the location where the alleged offence took place.

Denies allegations

In written statements issued in recent days, Phedonos has rejected the accusations, describing them as part of an organised campaign against him.

“The organised attempt to smear me will not go unanswered. Not institutionally. Not politically,” he stated in his latest public intervention.
