Police Conduct Island-Wide Checks on Tsiknopempti Night

A strong police presence was recorded across Cyprus on the night of Tsiknopempti, with coordinated patrols carried out in key urban areas. The operations were aimed at preventing serious criminal offences, safeguarding public order and enhancing public safety.

According to the Police, the preventive operations resulted in one arrest and multiple traffic and premises inspections.

Preventive policing operations across urban areas

Organised patrols were conducted in critical locations throughout the island. The stated objective was the prevention of serious criminal acts, the maintenance of public order and the strengthening of the public’s sense of security.

As part of the operations, a total of 379 drivers and passengers were stopped and checked during the night.

In addition, 20 premises were inspected in the context of addressing incidents of delinquency.

The Police confirmed the arrest of one individual for the offence of unlawful possession of property. No further details were provided regarding the circumstances of the arrest.

Traffic controls and reported offences

During traffic checks carried out as part of the operations, 117 reports were issued for various traffic violations.

Five cases involving traffic offences are currently under investigation.

Among the reports issued, twelve concerned driving under the influence of alcohol and three concerned driving under the influence of narcotic substances.

As part of the police investigations, two vehicles were seized.

Ongoing coordinated enforcement measures

The Police stated that coordinated policing operations aimed at the prevention and suppression of crime continue on a daily basis.

These include increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational response, with the objective of enhancing public safety and maintaining public order.
