A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case of an infant who remains in critical condition at Makarios Hospital, police confirmed.

According to police information, the infant was transferred to Makarios Hospital last Saturday, January 24, where doctors diagnosed shaken baby syndrome. The diagnosis raised immediate concerns among authorities, prompting the taking of statements and the subsequent arrest of the child’s father.

Speaking on the programme ALPHA Ενημέρωση, OKYpY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou said the infant underwent emergency surgery before being intubated and transferred to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Makarios Hospital.

He explained that the surgical intervention was deemed necessary after imaging tests revealed a haematoma in the brain. The infant remains hospitalised, with doctors describing the condition as critical.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
