The biobank.cy Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus has announced the establishment of its new Academic Board alongside the appointment of Dr Stavros Gravas as Deputy Director, marking a significant step in reinforcing its mission to advance biomedical research and public health outcomes.
The biobank.cy Centre of Excellence of the University of Cyprus has announced the formation of its new Academic Board and the appointment of Dr Stavros Gravas as Deputy Director. These strategic developments further strengthen the Centre’s commitment to promoting biomedical research, supporting innovation and fostering closer collaboration across scientific disciplines.
The new Academic Board will oversee the Centre’s operations and contribute to setting its research priorities, facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration and enhancing its contribution to biomedical research. The Board is composed of distinguished academics with wide recognition for their research and teaching work, and includes the following members:

Stavros Gravas: Professor of Urology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus. He also serves at the Urology Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital.

Georgios Chatzigeorgiou: Professor of Neurology and Associate Dean of the Medical School of the University of Cyprus, as well as Scientific and Clinical Head of the Neurology Clinic at Nicosia General Hospital.

Fofi Konstantinidou: Professor of Language Disorders and Clinical Neuropsychology at the Department of Psychology of the University of Cyprus, and Director of the Centre for Applied Neuroscience.

Paris Skourides: Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Cyprus and Head of the Laboratory of Developmental Biology and Stem Cells for Biomedical Research.

Nikolas Dietis: Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus.

Anneza Yiannourou: Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and Academic Lead of the Breast Centre at Nicosia General Hospital.
Dr Stavros Gravas, Professor of Urology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and physician at the Urology Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital, assumed the role of Deputy Director in September. He currently serves as Secretary General of the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU) and has previously chaired the Guidelines Panel of the European Association of Urology (EAU) for male lower urinary tract symptoms and benign prostatic obstruction. He is also a founding member of the Clinical Research Office of the Endourological Society, representing Europe.
The biobank.cy Centre of Excellence remains dedicated to its mission of generating new knowledge to improve human health and to contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of disease. The establishment of the new Academic Board, together with the appointment of a Deputy Director, further enhances the Centre’s capacity to deliver meaningful research outcomes for public health.
