Party says science-based framework would prioritise public health, social cohesion, and responsible adult use

Volt has submitted a proposal to legalise and regulate cannabis in Cyprus, arguing that today’s strict criminalisation of small-scale possession burdens the courts, stigmatizes young people, and fuels the black market.

In a statement, the party says its plan is grounded in scientific evidence and seeks to protect public health, strengthen social cohesion, and establish a responsible policy for adults aged 18 and over.

According to Volt, a regulated model would deliver social, economic, and environmental benefits. Medical use would be integrated into the national health system (GeSY), dependence would be treated through a medical rather than criminal lens, and industrial hemp would be promoted as a sustainable alternative for paper, textiles, and biofuels.

Volt calls on society, stakeholders, and citizens to take part in an open public discussion toward a new cannabis policy that serves people and progress.
