The Limassol District Court on Wednesday ordered the eight-day detention of a 30-year-old convicted prisoner suspected of orchestrating the purchase of the motorcycle involved in last week’s murder of 49-year-old Stavros Demosthenous.

The fifth person to be arrested in connection with the murder of Stavros Demosthenous is currently serving a four-year prison sentence for a drug-related offense and he was arrested on Tuesday afternoon inside the Central Prisons.

His lawyer did not object to the Police request for an eight-day remand.

According to what was heard in court, another person already in custody, implicated the 30-year-old convict in the “motorcycle chain” of the case. Specifically, he claimed in a written statement that he contacted the convict, gave him instructions to purchase the motorcycle in question, and to leave it at a specific location for someone else to collect.

After his arrest, the 30-year-old convict told investigators that he wished to give a full statement later in the presence of his lawyer.

Police are expected to take another 97 statements in connection with the case and conduct two further searches. Dozens of CCTV recordings from Limassol and Nicosia are also being reviewed.

Authorities emphasize that the case is being investigated in its entirety, and all suspects are being examined for all related offenses.
