The woman remains in critical condition, while the driver has been arrested and detained to facilitate the on-going investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
Around 2:50 p.m. yesterday, as the 25 year old was driving on the Paphos-Limassol highway, with a female friend of the same age as a passenger in the front seat, she suddenly lost control of her vehicle, veered off course, hit a concrete barrier and came to a stop on the right lane.
The passenger got out of the vehicle and walked to the right side of the car where she stood next to the driver, who was still sitting at the wheel with the door open.
Subsequently, a car driven by a 25-year-old man in the same direction ,on the right lane, swerved to avoid the immobilised vehicle but ended up hitting the woman who was standing outside, near the driver's seat.
She was initially rushed to the Limassol General Hospital and then Nicosia, due to the severity of her injuries. She was placed on life support in the ICU.
Breathalyser tests were conducted on the drivers of the vehicles involved in the crash, with negative results, while drug tests turned positive for both.
The 25-year-old driver of the second car was arrested and detained.
