Amid the high-profile ‘Sandy’case, journalist, researcher and parliamentary candidate with Volt Cyprus Makarios Drousiotis issued a new public statement, alleging a coordinated effort to discredit and even humiliate him.

In a social media post, Drousiotis said a communications campaign is under way aimed at undermining his credibility, adding that an individual acting alone is at a disadvantage when faced with what he described as an overwhelming onslaught. At the same time, he sought to reassure those who support him, saying he knows what he is saying and doing, and expressed confidence that the truth will ultimately prevail.

Drousiotis also announced that on Monday he will present an investigation he has carried out into property foreclosures. He claims the research points to an organised scheme to appropriate property, which he says is linked to the handling of non-performing loans. According to Drousiotis, the investigation is based on official documents, although its starting point was a series of messages which, he maintains, the “system of power” has already decided to label as forged, for reasons he says are clear.

First comment by former AG on ‘Sandy’case

Meanwhile, former Attorney General of the Republic Costas Clerides issued a brief statement regarding the ‘Sandy’ case, which emerged following social media posts by Drousiotis and the former AG’s brother, lawyer Nikos Clerides.

According to CNA, Clerides said that any limited information that came to his attention after his retirement, in relation to certain matters of an official nature, will be presented, if required, to the appropriate authorities with full responsibility.

He noted that he would make available whatever elements came to his knowledge after leaving office, should the need arise.
