Police investigations are ongoing into two separate matters concerning the Mayor of Paphos: an ex officio inquiry into an alleged domestic violence case, and earlier complaints of irregularities within Paphos Municipality dating back to 2022.

Speaking to CNA, Police Headquarters spokesperson Christodoulos Konsolos confirmed that the investigation into alleged criminal offences remains in progress and is expected to be completed in due course.

The ex officio probe concerns an alleged assault involving the mayor’s spouse, as well as a complaint filed by a businessman who claims to be a victim of serious offences.

2022 complaint referred again to Legal Service

Konsolos also confirmed that a complaint submitted in 2022 regarding alleged irregularities at Paphos Municipality was forwarded on 9 January 2026 to the Legal Service for review and instructions.

According to the Police, the case was initially investigated in 2022 and the file was sent to the Legal Service at that time. In 2023, instructions were issued for the Audit Office to become involved in order to carry out specialised checks.

In 2024, the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department to determine whether any criminal offences arose from the findings.

Following that investigation, the file was again submitted to the Legal Service on 9 January 2026 for further examination and guidance.

Authorities say they are awaiting instructions as both matters continue to be assessed.
