Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to sign a Strategic Partnership Agreement on Monday in Paris, formalising closer cooperation between the two countries across a range of key sectors.

Talks Ahead Of EU Council Presidency
During the meeting, the two presidents are expected to discuss the priorities of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2026. The discussions will also cover international and regional developments, within the framework of common European positions and the need to safeguard the unity and resilience of the European Union.
Strategic Partnership Agreement At The Centre Of The Visit
The main focus of President Christodoulides’ visit will be the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Cyprus and France. The agreement aims to strengthen and institutionalise bilateral relations through a structured framework of cooperation.
As outlined by the Government Spokesperson, the agreement will cover areas including defence, the economy, cultural cooperation, innovation and education, while also enhancing coordination on European and international issues.
From Strategic Convergence To Implementation
Mr Letymbiotis noted that the agreement reflects the shared intention of both countries to move from strategic convergence to strategic implementation. He said this would be achieved through a more structured, operational and targeted framework for cooperation.
According to the statement, the agreement also reinforces the role of the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable partner within the European Union and as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly in relation to security, energy resilience and European cohesion.
