Police in the north detained 14 people on Tuesday following a shooting incident in an industrial area of occupied Famagusta, according to Turkish Cypriot media reports.

A police statement cited by local outlets said the incident unfolded at around 10.30pm, when a verbal dispute outside a mechanic’s workshop escalated into a fight involving three people.

Another person then allegedly opened fire indiscriminately with an illegally held pistol at a group of people, including one of his relatives.

No injuries were reported, but a vehicle was damaged. During a search of the workshop, police found and seized four 9mm pistol casings as evidence.

The alleged shooter is being sought, while the other people involved were detained.

In a separate case in occupied Nicosia, officers from the narcotics and crime prevention units searched a man and his home, reportedly finding around 12 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, as well as six prescription-only pharmaceutical tablets.

The suspect was detained, while investigations into both cases are continuing.
