Three men arrested in connection with the fatal explosion that rocked Plaka last September have been charged with a series of serious offences, including possible intent murder, following the completion of the investigation.
According to the indictment, the suspects face charges of arson and causing an explosion that endangered human life and resulted in a death. Prosecutors allege the offences were committed intentionally and jointly.
They have also been charged with possible intent murder, committed repeatedly and jointly, as well as dangerous bodily harm, also on a repeated and joint basis.
Alleged attempt to remove copper
Investigators allege that the three men damaged natural gas pipelines inside the building while attempting to remove copper.
According to the findings of the investigation, the damage caused a gas leak that subsequently led to the explosion.
Authorities believe the explosion was the direct result of the interference with the building's gas infrastructure.
School van narrowly avoided disaster
Security camera footage captured the moment of the blast.
At the time of the explosion, a black school van carrying 12 pupils from a private school was travelling along Lysikratous Street, passing close to the building.
Although the vehicle was only a short distance from the explosion site, none of the children or other occupants was injured.
Case moves to court
The case has now been referred to the courts, which will examine the involvement of the three accused and determine any criminal liability arising from the incident.
