British police said on Friday that search warrants carried out at properties linked to Prince Andrew were issued improperly and should be revoked.
Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Investigators searched properties connected to him in Sandringham and Windsor as part of the inquiry.
The investigation centres on allegations that confidential government documents were leaked to the late Jeffrey Epstein during the period 2001 to 2011, when Andrew served as the UK's trade envoy.
Police have not indicated that the broader investigation has been abandoned, but said the warrants themselves were obtained incorrectly and must therefore be invalidated.
