Erdogan and Putin Discuss Ukraine War and Black Sea Navigation in Phone Call

The Turkish president renewed an offer to help establish Russia-Ukraine contacts and marked his counterpart's birthday.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday that Türkiye is ready to contribute to efforts to establish direct contacts between Russia and Ukraine. The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, according to the Turkish presidency.

Black Sea navigation

According to the Turkish presidency, Erdogan stressed the importance of efforts to ensure the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.

Russia-Ukraine contacts

Erdogan said Türkiye's aim in contributing to direct contacts between Moscow and Kyiv would be to promote dialogueand seek a diplomatic solution.

Bilateral and regional issues

The two leaders discussed the course of Ankara-Moscow relations, as well as broader regional and international issues.

Birthday and Duma elections

At the end of the call, Erdogan congratulated Putin on his birthday and on his party's electoral success in the elections to the Russian Duma.
