US and Iranian delegations agreed on a “roadmap” to reach a final agreement within sixty days aimed at ending the war in the Middle East, during the first round of negotiations held in Switzerland, the mediating countries Pakistan and Qatar announced.

The two sides “agreed on a roadmap aiming to reach a final agreement within a 60-day timeframe, thereby laying the groundwork for the immediate start of new technical talks,” Islamabad and Doha said in a joint statement. The talks are set to continue later this week in Switzerland.

Tehran sees “significant progress”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said today that “significant progress” had been made in negotiations with the United States, expressing satisfaction over the release of some Iranian funds frozen abroad, exemptions from sanctions allowing Iranian oil sales and efforts to end the war in Lebanon.

“Tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation has delivered major progress to end Lebanon War,” Araghchi said on X, following the first round of negotiations in Switzerland.

“Exports of oil and petrochemical products are exempt from sanctions, the blockade is lifted, some frozen resources are released and a major programme for reconstruction and development in Iran will begin,” he added.
