The Kremlin said Russia remains open to dialogue with European leaders, following a report that the EU is preparing for possible talks with the Russian president.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate with any party, including European leaders, the Kremlin said on Friday, after the Financial Times reported that EU leaders were preparing for possible talks with him.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin had repeatedly stated his readiness to negotiate.

Russia is prepared for dialogue with European countries, Peskov added, but Putin will not take the initiative himself.

The Kremlin also denied a report by German magazine Der Spiegel that the accreditations of foreign journalists had been revoked ahead of the Victory Day parade on 9 May in Moscow’s Red Square.

Peskov told reporters that no accreditation had been cancelled. However, he said changes to the parade programme meant that a limit had been placed on the number of foreign journalists allowed to cover the event.
