Former DISY candidate Anastasia Anthousi has withdrawn her election petition challenging the outcome of the parliamentary elections in the Nicosia district, bringing the court proceedings to an end.
The Electoral Court approved the request on Wednesday, terminating the case, which centred on the handling of five ballots and the subsequent allocation of parliamentary seats.
Election dispute dropped
The petition, filed in July, challenged the vote count at a polling station in Nikitari and the impact that a subsequent correction had on the distribution of seats.
According to the application, five EDEK ballots were initially counted and recorded as votes for ELAM before being reassigned to EDEK after the error was identified.
Seat allocation affected
The correction reportedly affected seat distribution across four electoral districts and ultimately resulted in Anthousi not securing election in Nicosia.
Through her petition, Anthousi had sought a recount of the specific ballot box, questioning the process through which the five votes were corrected after the initial count.
Legal proceedings conclude
With the withdrawal of the petition and the court's approval of the request, the legal challenge to the election result has now formally concluded.
