The European Parliament on Wednesday approved its report on Türkiye, with none of Cyprus’ six MEPs voting in favour.
The report passed during the plenary session in Strasbourg with 381 votes in favour, 107 against and 171 abstentions, out of a total of 659 votes cast.
Among Cypriot MEPs, Loukas Fourlas and Michalis Hadjipantela of DISY and the European People’s Party abstained, as did Costas Mavrides of DIKO and the Socialists and Democrats, Geadis Geadi of ELAM and the European Conservatives and Reformists, and Giorgos Georgiou of AKEL and The Left.
Fidias Panayiotou, an independent MEP associated with Direct Democracy, was the only Cypriot MEP to vote against the report.
The report, drafted by Spanish S&D MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor, forms part of the European Parliament’s assessment of Türkiye’s relationship with the EU and its progress in relation to the accession framework.
