Direct Democracy Cyprus, led by MEP Fidias Panayiotou, will be represented in the new House of Representatives for the first time after winning four seats in the 2026 parliamentary elections. The party secured one seat each in Nicosia, Limassol, Famagusta and Paphos. Panayiotou was initially elected in Nicosia, but chose to remain in the European Parliament, with the seat passing to Yiannis Laouris. The party’s parliamentary group is completed by Dimitris Souglis in Limassol, Diana Constantinide in Famagusta and Dimitris Baros in Paphos.

Nicosia
Yiannis Laouris

Yiannis Laouris is a medical doctor, neurophysiologist and systems scientist, trained in Germany and the United States. He is the lead scientist and chair of Future Worlds Center and has been involved for decades in research, technology, peacebuilding and democratic participation projects. He founded the Cyprus Neuroscience and Technology Institute and has worked on initiatives linking science, digital tools and public dialogue. Laouris was elected to Parliament with Direct Democracy after Fidias Panayiotou, who had won the party’s Nicosia seat, chose to remain in the European Parliament.
Limassol
Dimitris Souglis

Dimitris Souglis was born in Famagusta in 1970 and has lived in Limassol since the Turkish invasion. He has been active in public life since his school years, taking part in anti-occupation initiatives and student union activity. Souglis is known professionally as a journalist, television presenter and author, with a career in the media dating back to 1990. He has also worked through Souglis Promotion Services, with activity in communications, promotion and events. He was a candidate in previous parliamentary elections and was elected to Parliament with Direct Democracy in the Limassol district.
Famagusta
Diana Constantinide

Diana Constantinide is a barrister at 33 Bedford Row Chambers in London, specialising in international criminal law, public international law and human rights. She has represented clients before courts in the United Kingdom and Cyprus and has worked on cases involving victims before the International Criminal Court. A Cypriot-qualified lawyer who transferred to the Bar of England and Wales in 2017, she has also served on the executive committee of the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales. Constantinide was appointed vice-president of Direct Democracy Cyprus after the party’s internal election in March 2026 and was elected to Parliament in the Famagusta district.
Paphos
Dimitris Baros

Dimitris Baros was elected to Parliament with Direct Democracy in the Paphos district, becoming the youngest member of the new House of Representatives. According to his biography, he completed secondary school with a grade of 19 out of 20 and secured a place to study electrical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. He served in the army as a reserve officer cadet in the special forces and has also completed an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon. Baros was elected with 280 preference votes, entering Parliament as one of the new faces brought forward by Fidias Panayiotou’s party.
