Michalis Michail cites need to focus on family after 13 years in role

Michalis Michail has announced his resignation as deputy leader of ELAM, just days after parliamentary elections in which he failed to secure a seat in the Paphos district.

In a lengthy social media post, Michail thanked those who had supported him throughout the years, describing a relationship of trust and backing that went beyond the recent elections.

'Bittersweet feelings'

He said he had already submitted his resignation in writing from the position of deputy leader, a role he held for 13 years. He described ELAM as his “second family” and said he had dedicated a significant part of his life to the party.

Michail said the parliamentary election result had left him with a “bittersweet feeling”, though he stressed that he fully respected both the outcome and what he described as the “hard reality”, adding that there were “no grey areas or shadows”.

He also stated that he felt his “cycle in this part” of political life had come to an end, making clear that he was stepping down without bitterness or complaints, but instead with a sense of fulfilment and gratitude.

In his statement, he noted that he had participated in eight electoral contests and served for eight years as a municipal councillor in the Municipality of Paphos.

He added that he now wished to dedicate more time to his family and himself.
